Pilgrim Bottle Vase
‘Pilgrim Bottle Vase’ Chinese, 1860
The story makes me laugh – the vase was bought by a local woman from the Cliffe Castle sale of contents . She was outbid on a cardtable, so she bought the vase instead.
She didn’t have enough for the bus fare home and had to walk with it all the way to Ilkley, resting in fields enroute!
It returned to Cliffe Castle in 2011.
